Tank Man Beijing – A photographer, Jeff Widener perched on a balcony of a Beijing hotel in June 1989 after a massacre had happened just a day before. He photographed bloody victims, passersby on bicycles, and scorched buses as tanks emerged. One man carrying shopping bags stepped forth in front of the tanks and waved his arms and refused to move from the way. The tanks tried to go round but he climbed on one. Widener thought they would open fire on the man but they did not. A decade after, the tank man became famous but remained anonymous.
